A Special Tribute

A Story of Love, Awareness, and Women’s Health

Beating Heart Health for Women is deeply personal for me. At the heart of this movement is my sister, Teresa, whose life and legacy continue to shape how I show up for women and women’s health.

In honor of Teresa

Out of both love and caution, I initially chose to explore holistic and natural approaches to managing menopause, navigating the hot flashes, mood changes, weight gain, brain fog, and physical shifts that so many women experience. For a time, that path felt right for me.

Teresa passed away from endometrial cancer, and her journey profoundly impacted how I approached my own health when I entered menopause. When I was first diagnosed, I was cautious, especially when it came to hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

As a researcher and scholar, I was aware of the data and ongoing conversations surrounding HRT and its potential links to breast, uterine, and endometrial cancers. As a sister, that awareness carried weight.

The Journey Continued

As my journey continued, I realized something equally important: informed choice matters. After further research, honest conversations with my physician, and genetic testing, I gained clarity about my personal health risks. That process allowed me to make decisions rooted not in fear, but in knowledge.

What this Means for Women

Teresa’s story reminds me and the women I serve that our health journeys are not one-size-fits-all. What matters most is access to information, trusted medical guidance, and the freedom to make empowered decisions for our own bodies.

This page is dedicated to my sister’s memory and to every woman who has ever paused, questioned, researched, and advocated for herself. Her life continues to inspire the work we do, creating space for education, dialogue, and empowerment.

"Through this work, I carry you with me, honoring your story by helping other women walk theirs with knowledge, courage, and care."

Always in my heart, your loving little sissy,

Shonie
